Bo obtained his B.S. in Chemistry from Zhengzhou University and his Ph.D. from Nankai University (with Prof. Qingmin-Wang) where he worked on the total synthesis of phenanthroindolizidine alkaloids. He conducted his postdoctoral research first at Peking University (with Prof. Zhangjie Shi) and then at UC Berkeley (with Prof. John Hartwig) on transition-metal-catalyzed new reaction development and asymmetric catalysis. During this period, he achieved the first iridium-catalyzed enantioselective borylation of C-H bonds and the first enantioselective silylation of alkyl C-H bonds. In June 2020, Bo returned to NKU to start his independent research career as a full professor. His research interest is focusing on developing novel C-X (e.g., C-B, C-P, C-C, etc.) bond-forming reactions to address enduring challenges in traditional synthetic chemistry, to provide state-of-the-art chemical tools for the synthesis of pharmaceuticals, drug candidates, and complex natural products, and to expedite the discovery of new drugs. He was selected as the young editorial board member of "Tetrahedron and Tetrahedron Letter" (2022-2024) and was recognized by the "Thieme Chemistry Journals Awards" (2024).
